One-Day Collection - May 2025

Washington County’s One-Day Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events offer residents a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of a wide variety of unwanted household materials. Held during the summer and fall, these community-focused events are designed to prevent hazardous waste from ending up in landfills, waterways, or being improperly stored in homes and garages. Each event also features secure on-site document shredding, helping community members protect sensitive information. To accommodate as many residents as possible, shredding is limited to four boxes per customer, and availability may be capped before the end of the event based on truck capacity.

Accepted items include home improvement materials such as paints, stains, and varnishes; automotive fluids and filters; yard and garden chemicals; electronic devices like TVs, cell phones, and tablets (batteries removed); and household items such as cleaners, aerosol cans, fluorescent bulbs, mercury devices, and more. Even vaping devices and household sharps (in sealed, labeled containers) are accepted, offering a one-stop drop-off solution for hard-to-dispose-of items. Detailed drop-off procedures are in place to ensure smooth and safe unloading—participants are asked to remain in their vehicles and show proof of residency.

This valuable community service is proudly supported by Sustainable Stillwater MN, a nonprofit organization dedicated to environmental stewardship and the long-term sustainability of the Stillwater area. Our support for these collection events aligns with our mission to reduce environmental harm, promote eco-friendly living, and protect public health. By encouraging proper hazardous waste disposal and responsible recycling, we help prevent pollution, safeguard natural resources, and build a more resilient, cleaner community. These events offer a practical, impactful way for residents to take climate action right at home.

For those unable to attend a collection event, the Washington County Environmental Center provides free, year-round disposal options for hazardous waste, electronics, and recyclables—making sustainable living accessible and convenient every day of the year.
