About the Event

Washington County’s Garden Tool Swap is a free, community-focused event designed to promote reuse and waste reduction by giving new life to gently used garden tools and supplies. Held on Wednesday, May 7, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at both the North Environmental Center in Forest Lake and the South Environmental Center in Woodbury, the swap encourages residents to donate usable garden items and pick up something new-to-you—no donation required. Each attendee may take home up to three items, and any remaining supplies after the event will be donated to local organizations.

Accepted items include clean hand tools, rakes, shovels, garden gloves, decorative pots and planters, garden art, birdhouses, and feeders. Items not accepted include powered tools, broken or oversized items, plastic planters, and soil or dirt. Donations will be accepted through May 3 at both Environmental Center locations.

This event is proudly supported by Sustainable Stillwater MN, a nonprofit dedicated to environmental stewardship and fostering sustainable community practices. Supporting the Garden Tool Swap reflects our commitment to resource conservation and waste reduction. By encouraging reuse and discouraging the disposal of perfectly good tools and supplies, the event promotes a circular economy mindset—one where items are kept in use for as long as possible, reducing the need for new products and cutting down on landfill waste and carbon emissions.

Events like this empower residents to take simple, meaningful steps toward a more sustainable lifestyle, making it easy and rewarding to give and get useful items without cost.
