Ami Voeltz, Sustainable Stillwater MN’s Program Administrator and DEI Workgroup Leader, attended a United Way of Washington County-East (UWWCE) DEI Taskforce meeting this past month representing SSMN. This meeting focused on creating a safe environment and identifying key opportunities to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in our community.
Participants, including representatives from nonprofits, businesses, and local government, discussed what it means to create a safe and inclusive environment. The taskforce identified significant opportunities for collaboration to address equity challenges, emphasizing the interconnectedness of social and environmental justice. Topics ranged from affordable housing to communication campaigns. United Way’s commitment to providing resources and training was also highlighted, with potential training sessions planned for the next meeting.
At Sustainable Stillwater MN, we believe that social and environmental justice are deeply intertwined. A sustainable community is one where everyone has equitable access to resources and opportunities. By addressing issues like affordable housing and creating inclusive environments, we also support broader environmental goals, such as reducing our carbon footprint and promoting resilient, healthy communities.
The taskforce aims to determine priorities and goals over the coming months, working towards a county-wide coalition to address community equity issues. We are excited about the possibilities and look forward to collaborating with United Way and other local organizations to advance both social and environmental justice.
Stay tuned for updates and opportunities to get involved in this important initiative. Together, we can create a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable community for all.
