We are thrilled to announce our keynote speaker for Sustainable Stillwater MN's annual nonprofit fundraiser, Sustainability Works! 2024 – the remarkable Colleen Redmond, a dynamic leader in climate education and sustainability.
Colleen's journey in education and climate advocacy spans over two decades. With a rich background as an elementary educator, she has spent more than twenty-six years designing innovative curricula and creating impactful educational programs for young learners. Her expertise extends beyond the classroom; she has developed and led professional development initiatives, employing design thinking to enhance educational practices and community engagement.
A decade ago, Colleen, alongside her partner Ted, co-founded paleBLUEdot, a trailblazing climate planning firm. Under her leadership, paleBLUEdot has become a beacon in the field of carbon and climate change planning, providing essential services in sustainability and renewable energy. Colleen is at the forefront of their community engagement efforts, focusing on educating youth about climate issues and inspiring actionable solutions.
Currently, Colleen is pursuing a PhD in Literacy Education at the University of Minnesota, where her research delves into eco-grief among youth and the role of hope in their narratives. Her academic work complements her practical experience, as she also serves as a graduate instructor and the Coordinator of the Curriculum and Instruction Library. Colleen’s passion lies in exploring the intersection of literature, storytelling, and environmental awareness, particularly how hope and collective action shape the experiences of young people facing a climate crisis.
