It seems like everybody’s going solar these days, and Bayport is no exception! The Bayport Fire Department is the latest to jump on the solar energy bandwagon, and we couldn’t be more excited.

Thanks to a grant from the Minnesota Department of Commerce – Division of Energy Resources, Bayport is installing a 36-kW solar array at the fire station. This solar panel setup will generate enough energy to power about five and a half residential homes annually, giving the department a much-needed energy boost while cutting down on costs.
And here’s the kicker: the whole project is fully funded by the state grant. That means no cost to the city or taxpayers—just clean, green energy and savings in the long run. Over the years, the department could save hundreds of thousands of dollars on energy bills. Sounds like a no-brainer, right?
This move follows in the footsteps of many others embracing solar energy. With Wolf River Electric handling the installation, Bayport is making a powerful statement about reducing their environmental impact and making smart financial decisions. Plus, with Xcel Energy already on board, the project is ready to roll with no hiccups in sight.
Mayor Michele Hanson is all in on this solar switch, sharing her excitement about finally getting the fire station equipped with solar panels. It’s clear: solar power is the way to go, and Bayport’s fire department is just the latest to get in on the action.
So, if you haven’t already considered it, maybe it’s time to ask: What’s stopping you from going solar? Bayport’s victory is just one more example of how easy and impactful this transition can be.
